Yulong River is the biggest branch of the Li River in Yangshuo County. The clear water runs smoothly past rice paddies, farmhouses, orange trees and limestone mountains.
The local fishermen have found a new way to display the natural beauty and their traditional way of living, they ride bamboo raft, putting two chairs on each raft, while passengers can take a ride.
Traveling by bamboo raft you will be surrounded by the crystal water and feel relaxed and happy in the arms of the green mountains.
The rafting is a kind of leisure rafting, the water is smooth, some rafts have a big umbrella ready for a sudden rain, the surrounding is peaceful and quiet.
The most popular trip is: Ride a bike from Yangshuo to Hongqi Dock (about 1 hour), put your bikes one the raft, two persons share one bamboo raft. The time for rafting is 1-2 hours, differs from different seasons and water levels.
Many small dams have been built on Yulong River, still can see some relics of these ancient dams, which are used to hold water at a high level, many of them are still in good shapes, for irrigation and transportation. You will pass serveral dams during your 1-hour rafting along the Yulong River. Remember to put on your life jacket, take off your shoes. Anyway, you might get wet eventually, many people can help themselves to jumping into the beautiful river at the end of the ride.
If you have time to stop on the route, you might trek along the rice paddie, climb up one of those limestone mountains. Looking from the mountaintops, you can see a vivid panorama of the landscape with the green crystal water flowing through the colorful valley below.
Along the Yulong River you can find Fuli Bridge, Guiyi Original Site, Ancient Village, Xiangui Bridge, the Zhus'Camp, Chuan Cave, Rhinoceros Deep Pool, Zhaoyang Camp, Seven Stars and more attractions.
