Shanghai Grand Theatre
Shanghai Grand Theatre is located in the west of the City Hall on People's Square.

Shanghai Grand Theatre has a total floor space of 70,000 sq.m. The building is 40-m high, with 2 stories underground, 6 stories aboveground and 2 stories on top, altogether 10 stories.

Shanghai Grand Theatre was designed by the French architect Salbanjie, unique in style, combining the feature of the Chinese and Western cultures. The white arched roof and the transparent lustrous glass wall ingeniously incorporated poses like a crystal palace. The stage with a space of 728 sq.m., a back stage of 360 sq.m. and side stages of 256 sq.m. is the largest in the world with the most convertible stage facilities. There are 1,800 seats in audience hall, able to satisfy the needs of performance by first-grade international and domestic ballet, opera and symphony orchestra troupes.

In the theatre compound there is a medium-size theatre of 550 sq.m. with a seating capacity of 250 people, suitable for the performance of chamber music and song and dance shows. The Grand Theatre has become a center of cultural life in Shanghai, providing a place for performances of world-grade operas, dances, films and music. It is an architecture of a cultural symbol in Shanghai as an international metropolis.
