World Expositions are galleries of human inspirations and thoughts. Since 1851 when the Great Exhibition of Industries of All Nations was held in London, the World Expositions have attained increasing prominence as grand events for economic, scientific, technological and cultural exchanges, serving as an important platform for displaying historical experience, exchanging innovative ideas, demonstrating esprit decorps and looking to the future.
Expo 2010 Shanghai China will be a great event to explore the full potential of urban life in the 21st century and a significant period in urban evolution. Fifty-five percent of the world population is expected to live in cities by the year 2010. The prospect of future urban life, a subject of global interest, concerns all nations, developed or less developed, and their people. Being the first World Exposition on the theme of city, Exposition 2010 will attract governments and people from across the world, focusing on the theme "Better City, Better Life." For its 184 days, participants will display urban civilisation to the full extent, exchange their experiences of urban development, disseminate advanced notions on cities and explore new approaches to human habitat, lifestyle and working conditions in the new century. They will learn how to create an eco-friendly society and maintain the sustainable development of human beings.

Theme The theme of Expo 2010 is "Better City, Better Life," representing the common wish of the whole humankind for a better living in future urban environments. This theme represents a central concern of the international community for future policy making, urban strategies and sustainable development.
The quest for a better life has run through the urban history of mankind. Through different sub-themes, Expo 2010 will create blueprints for future cities and harmonious urban life styles, providing an extraordinary educational and entertaining platform for visitors of all nations.

Expo Emblem The emblem, depicting the image of three people-you, me, him/her holding hands together, symbolizes the big family of mankind. Inspired by the shape of the Chinese character"shi" which means "world" in English, the design conveys the organizers' wish to host an Expo which is of global scale and which showcases the diversified urban cultures in the world.
Mascot The lovely Haibao, the mascot of Expo 2010 Shanghai China, was created from the Chinese character "人" which means people. It embodies the character of Chinese culture and echoes with the designing concept of the emblem of World Expo Shanghai. Using the Chinese character as the mascot of an international event is an innovation.
Hair: the wave of the sea like hair represents its open character and stated the character of its birth place Shanghai. Face: its cartoon expression shows its confidence and friendly character. Eye: Haibao's big and round eyes show his anticipation of the city's future. Blue: represents the rising and potential China, abounding in latitude and imagination. Body: its lovely and cute round body shows a harmonious and well-off life. Fist: he thumbs up to express the appreciation and warm welcome to the friends from all over the world. Big feet: he stands steadily on the big feet and embraces the world with big arms, which shows China have the ability and faith to host a successful Expo.
The mascot will surly become the lucky symbol and cultural remark of Shanghai Expo.
Ticket Price The Expo tickets will be available for purchase either during the Expo session or in advance.
Pre-sale Phases The Expo tickets will be available for purchase according to four sales phases. Group Admission and Student Group Admission tickets are sold during all phases by authorized travel agents and educational institutes and are not available for private purchase at any time.
Pre-sale Phases: I (Mar. 27, 2009 – Jun. 30, 2009) Only authorized travel agents and educational institutes, as well as organizations, institutions and enterprises, could purchase tickets. Peak Day Single Day Admission tickets were sold for 170 yuan and Standard Day Single Day Admission tickets were sold for 130 yuan. Other tickets are not available.
Pre-sale Phase II (Jul. 1, 2009 – Dec. 31, 2009) Both individuals and groups can purchase tickets from July 1, 2009 onwards. Peak Day Single Day Admission tickets are sold for 180 yuan and Standard Day Single Day Admission tickets are sold for 140 yuan. All other tickets remain unavailable.
Pre-sale Phase III (Jan. 1, 2010 – Apr. 30, 2010) Peak Day Single Day Admission tickets will be sold for 190 yuan; Peak Day Special Admission tickets will be sold for 110 yuan, Standard Day Single Day Admission tickets will be sold for 150 yuan; Standard Day Special Admission tickets will be sold for 90 yuan; 3-Day Admission tickets will be sold for 400 yuan; and 7-Day Admission tickets will be sold for 900 yuan. Evening Admission Tickets remain unavailable.
Expo Session Sales (May 1, 2010 – Oct. 31, 2010) Peak Day Single Day Admission tickets will be sold for 200 yuan; Peak Day Special Admission tickets will be sold for 120 yuan; Standard Day Single Day Admission tickets will be sold for 160 yuan; Standard Day Special Admission tickets will be sold for 100 yuan, 3-Day Admission tickets will be sold for 400 yuan; 7-Day Admission tickets will be sold for 900 yuan.
