Gaocheng Astronomical Observatory |

| Gaocheng Astronomical Observatory is situated in Duke Zhou Gong's shrine, Gaocheng Town, near Dengfeng in Henan Province. This site has a long tradition of atronomical observations, from the time of the Western Zhou up to early Yuan Dynasty. Actually, one can see a gnomon used for the Da Yan calendar in 729 AD and the great observatory of the Yuan Dynasty. |

Since the Tang Dynasty no Chinese city has been able to rival Luoyang in growing peonies boasting nearly 10 million peony trees with more than 700 species - all thanks to improvements in technology of peony cultivation. |
