Statue of Fisher Girl

The Statue of fisher girl has become the landmark in the city of Zhuhai, located at the scenic Xianglu Bay. She holds a pearl high in the air with both hands in an elegant pose, admiring its bright luster that also symbolizes the brightness of Zhuhai.

Fisher Girl Statue is composed of granite and stands 8.7 meters high weighing 10 tons. The legend is that a beautiful fairy maiden fell in love with a young fisherman. He believed some fabricated rumors and asked the girl for the bracelet she wore as proof of her love.

Although she knew she would die if the bracelet were removed from her body, she still took it off and presented it to show her deep love for him. The girl died and the fisherman was bitterly remorseful, crying all day and all night.

An Immortal named Jiuzhou Elder was moved by their love and helped the young man resuscitate the girl. They offered this huge precious pearl to their benefactor during their marriage ceremony as a token of their appreciation for his kindness.

The Legend of Statue of Fisher Girl
Long long ago, there was a fairy maiden, she was attracted by the beautiful scenery of Xianglu bay, and she decided to descend to the earth so that she could enjoy the entire wonderful scenery. She disguised herself as a fisher girl, weaving nets and searching for pearls to support herself. Additionally, she was virtuous and always used her knowledge and magic to help villagers, so she was loved by all the villagers.

One day she met a young and honest fisherman called Haipeng, they fell in love. Unfortunately, Haipeng listened to a dwarf's calumny and demanded the fisher girl to give him her bracelet as token of attachment. She explained the origin of the bracelet tearfully: before she descended to the earth, she was the South Sea Dragon King's daughter, her father arranged eight mistresses to avoid her escape, and every mistress gave her a bracelet, she would die if she even removed one. However, Haipeng thought it was a lie and turned to leave. The fisher girl removed her bracelet fiercely in order to prove her love for Haipeng, but died in his arms immediately. Haipeng was compunctious so much and went nearly mad in grief.

His great sorrow moved immortal Jiu Zhou Huan oldster, he told Haipeng the way to bring the fisher girl back to life. The oldster conducted him to the Jiu Zhou Island and found a magical resurrection grass. But this grass must be fed by man's blood everyday. Haipeng grew it with his blood as the instruction. Days turned to years, and the grass was finally grown up and saved the fisher girl. Henceforth, the fisher girl became a true mortal. On their wedding day, she found a gigantic and magical pearl at the seashore with all fisher girls in the village. In gratitude, the fisher girl presents the precious pearl to the immortal oldster with both hands.

So, now you get the answer. The fisher girl statue is so famous just because of the affecting legend. Wish the fisher girl will give you felicity and health!
