Central District

Central District is known as economic and tourist hub in Hong Kong Island. It hosts slew of shining skyscrapers as well as marbled glittering atriums and malls. Central District is admired for fantastic fusion of old markets, designer boutiques and shopping malls. And Midlevel Escalator and Walkway System.

Local Food and Snacks
Hong Kong has a world of exquisite, mouth-watering international dining options. As you would expect, good Chinese restaurants are found everywhere in Hong Kong. Some of the best can be found in major hotels and shopping complexes. And you can find the traditional Chiu Chow food and Chinese-style desserts and also stands for snacks along the street.

International Cuisine
As an international city, many cultures and tastes are represented in Hong Kong's world of dining. Enjoy five-star haute cuisine, fast- food, snacks or casual family-style meals in some of Hong Kong's Eastern and Western restaurants. Thai, Vietnamese, Indian, Indonesian, Malaysian and Filipino restaurants make for a pleasant change from Chinese food, as do Japanese sushi bars and fine restaurants. The Western culinary traditions are well represented with American, French, Italian, Mediterranean and other cuisines for those with a penchant for western fare or Mexican makes for a spicy alternative.

High-end Shopping Spots
Financial and banking houses throng the area, and scattered between them are glittering malls of world level. Most well-known among Central District shopping spots are Bonham Strand West, Hollywood Road and Cat Street. The last two are particularly famous for antique shops. Central District hosts high-end shopping malls like the Landmark, the Galleria, Prince’s Building and IFC Mall.

Shopping Streets
Not miss Stanley Street when you are in Hongkong. You would enjoy even the bus ride to the place. Western style clothes, specially of silk, would be available in the street. Articles like Chinese artwork, costume jewellery, sportswear and souvenirs are also available here.

Hollywood Road and Cat Street are known for its antiques shops. Antique lovers can rest assured that they would get a thing or two of their interest here. Central’s stepped ladder streets are thronged by sidewalk hawkers. Des Voeux Road are also two major streets in Central District.

The Lanes
‘The Lanes’ are two parallel streets in Central famous for their shopping stalls. The two streets, namely Li Yuen Street East and Li Yuen Street West have number of stalls selling articles like watches, clothes, shoes and luggage. The Lanes seem tailormade for people who are fond of bargain shopping.

MidLevel Escalator and Walkway System
MidLevel Escalator and Walkway System, located in Central District, is the longest outdoor covered escalator system on the planet. The system is almost 800 metres long and has vertical inclination of around 130 metres. It consists of 20 escalators and three moving walkways.
