British Airways will be one of the first airlines that will operate in the new Terminal 2 of Shanghai Pudong International Airport when it is inaugurated on March 26, 2008.
British Airways, together with 14 other airlines, will be the first group to start operations in the state-of-the-art Terminal. Another 18 airlines will follow on April 29, 2008.
British Airways China Manager Sara Thorley said, "British Airways is honoured to be one of the first tenants of Terminal 2. The SPIA expansion project is very timely as Shanghai continues to solidify its status as one of China's gateway cities. Currently British Airways offers five flights per week from Shanghai to London Heathrow. We have plans to increase our schedule to daily flights in response to growing passenger demand."
As well as a new terminal, SPIA has also added a 3,400-meter-long and 60-meter-wide third runway. The annual capacity of the Airport is expected to increase to 60 million passengers and 4.2 million tons of freight, made possible by the additional infrastructure and facilities.
