Held every summer in the famous Xinghai Square, the Dalian Beer Festival provides residents and visitors alike with a great excuse to get drunk. Copious quantities local and foreign brews, including Tsingtao, Yanjing, Budweiser and Daxue organize beer quizzes, ''Princess of Beer'' beauty pageants, beer drinking competitions, beer culture exhibitions, and, of course, plenty of sampling. The festival is jointly sponsored by the China Federation of Light Industry Associations and the People's Government of Dalian, making it the only state-sanctioned beer festival in China.
