Taxi
Taking taxi is the most common and convenient way for transportation inside the city.
There are almost 17,000 taxies served in Guangzhou now. The taxi charges CNY7.00 for the first 2.3 kilometers (1.4 miles), and CNY2.60 for succeeding kilometers. Since Nov. 2005, all taxi passengers have been required to pay a fuel surcharge of CNY1.00 yuan per ride.

During the period of Canton Fair, more than 4,000 taxies will be put into Canton Fair transfer service. It will be safe to take a taxi in Guangzhou . But it will be smoother if you could be aware of some tips for getting around Guangzhou city.

TIP:  Citizens in Guangdong can dial 960166, a service hotline provided by fixed telephones, which is available for asking directions within the province.

Guangzhou Subway (Metro) Service
Guangzhou's Subway first opened on the year of 1997 and the network has expanded to encompass 4 lines and 61 stations along 116 kilometres (72 Miles). It is very efficient and convenient to the major areas of Guangzhou City by Metro. Line 1 and Line 2 run through the most area of Guangzhou city.

It is definitely a fast way to get to both Canton Fair Pazhou Complex and Liuhua Complex by Metro Line 2 directly, especially during the peak hours. The Station Name of Canton Fair Pazhou Complex is "Pazhou" (Line 2), the Station Name of Canton Fair Liuhua Complex is "Yuexiu Park" (Line 2).

The ticket prices range from CNY2.00 to CNY8.00. Passengers could buy the ticket (like Plastic Coin) through the TVM (Ticket Vending Machine) by using coins. If you have no Chinese Coins, you may change it in the Service Counter of each station. Once a coin has been bought you go through the ticket gates by placing the coin on top of the pad and taking it with you. When leaving a station you need to insert the coin into the slot, which will then disappear and the gate will open. Stations are open from 06:00 to 23:30.

The subway in Guangzhou is limited at the moment with just 4 lines in operation. It costs 4 RMB to most destinations, with outlying suburbs costing 5 or 6 RMB. Right now, the subway is a great way to beat the growing Guangzhou traffic jam.

In Guangzhou subway stations, somewhere you will find a counter which is selling the single journey tickets.  Nowadays it conveniently states "Tickets" along with the Chinese.  Depending on the time of day and the station you might see a queue or maybe a "huddle".  We advise you to be a good foreign tourist and encourage the queue.

There are 4 lines for Guangzhou subway. You can take line 2 to Yuexiu Park station to the Liuhua Fair complex. And you can change lines in Tiyu XiLu between line 1 and line 3, in Gongyuanqian between line 1 and line 2, in Kecun between line 2 and line 3, in Wangshengwei between line 2 and line 4.

TIP:  How to buy a single journey ticket?
1). Find a ticket vending machine (TVM)
2). Select your destination on the route map
3). Select the quantity of ticket you need
4). Insert bills or coins for the amount due (the TVM accept CNY 0.5 or CNY 1 coins, CNY5 or CNY10 bills only)
5). Take your ticket and change.
