A Great Day In Longsheng
We were just in Guilin/Yangshuo/Longsheng for 5 days, and loved the area. We had a wonderful day trip with a guide to the Long Ji Rice Terrace. It is stunningly beautiful, and the walk up the stairs is worth every step. The houses and structures are also intriguing. It is a somewhat isolated area, and the rice harvest is done totally by hand.
In the village, and along the way up to the top, you will see the Yao women. These are one of the “minorities” – an ancient sect of women who never cut their hair, and have it wound around and around their heads. They, along with the other women in the village, are selling small items all along the way. There is alot of character in their faces.
Once you reach the top, you see the whole valley of rice terraces, and it’s quite amazing. It is a great day trip out of Guilin and definitely a must if you are in that area. It is recommended to have your hotel set up a day trip with a guide, or if you are working with a travel agent, it’s easily scheduled. The guide arranges lunch at a very basic restaurant on the way up, and lunch is arranged as a stop on the way down the stairs. The food is actually quite good, and of course a rest after the hike is something to look forward to.
Highly recommended……
