Beijing Olympics is coming

The 2008 Summer Olympics, officially known as the Games of the XXIX Olympiad, will be celebrated from August 8, 2008 to August 24, 2008, with the opening ceremony at the Beijing National Stadium in Beijing, People’s Republic of China.

Seven million tickets will be sold for the 2008 games, with more than five million allocated to the host country.  You won’t believe yesterday on the news the lady said that in Beijing people are told to smile, in that way the government wants to make the city more attractive for the upcoming Olympics.

They want to make the city more friendly and the smile on the face of native citizens will be a plus.  Let’s smile.

The time for Olympics games is coming!!! I just wanted to know if anyone planning to visit this event? Does anyone ever visited any of the Olympics Games?

Definitely not. Olympic games are equal with corruption, waste of money, power politics, you name it. It’s gone far out of proportion already a quarter of a century ago. All summer games should be held in Athens, where the games belong, and winter olympics could just end and be replaced by all the other winter sport events. There are enough of them.

Well that is on the one hand…. but on the other we have great sport event, with a lot of emotions! It is always interesting to watch it on TV… and I would like to know what is difference to watch it in reality?

Not everybody in this World is interested in sports. And the olympic games cost tremendous amounts of money, that could have been used better. When Norway held the Lillehammer olympic games – one and a half weeks of “fun” – it costed 7 billions Norwegian kroner. As we are only about 2 millions tax payers in this country and I hardly pay less than the average it means that I personally had to pay about 4000-5000 kroner for those games (700-900 USdollars). We could have built a railway at least half way to Tromsø (from Fauske, where the Norwegian rail network ends now) for that money.

Yes you are right, I can watch only tennis and I can do it at home on TV. Jesus $700-$900 per person, that is a huge amount of money (at least we will never have Olympics in Moldova). Any positive results for Norway from these games?

That is true! Montreal finished paying for the 1976 Olympics in 2006.
Well I’ve heard that Olympics might bring some beneficial to the society. It helps to promote sports. This service generates a lot of income from audience ,sponsors and many more. Some times city gets better transport system.
