Xiushui Street

Xiushui Street

Silk Street lies in Xiushuidong Jie (East Xiushui Street) off Jianguomenwai Dajie, near the US Embassy. There are about 300 stores crowded in the 1 li (547 yards) long street. Bargaining is an eternal theme in Xiushui Street. It is a favorite place for bargains and is frequented by the resident foreigners in Beijing. Whatever you wish to buy, be it bags, shoes, handicrafts or sweaters, you may haggle enthusiastically with the shopkeepers for the best price. Most of the shop keepers can speak a little simple English. It is interesting to see them holding a calculator, discussing the price with a foreigner in their broken English.

Apart from that, a silk street about 100 meters (109 yards) long and a silk museum has been built recently on the third floor of Xiushui Market. 18 long established shops, serving high quality silk, have located here, including Ruifuxiang, Shengxifu and Neiliansheng. You can also experience the traditional procedure of making silk in the Silk Museum to know the Chinese silk culture better.

After more than 20 years development, the two characters "Xiu Shui" have become a famous brand among the sphere of commodity circulation in Beijing. The Silk Street High-rise is tightly near CBD, the total floorage amount to 28,000 square meters, and there are 1,500 stalls in the market. Commodities mainly sold in Silk Street are shoes, bags and cases, leather, famous brand, casual wear, fashion clothing, cowboy series, sports leisure attire, knitted dress, kid's clothing, tie, silk handkerchief, silk wax printing, craft table cloth, handicraft, jewelry, antique, calligraphy and painting, Beijing roast duck and characteristic snack, etc.

The construction of Silk Street was started working since 6 June 2004. And was completed on 6 January 2005. It is well served with public establishment. The entrance of subway comes through the inner building. And highways radiate in all directions. Several decades of station wagons can park around the square. Meanwhile there is ample parking space underground.

This is an intellectualized business establishment with fire protection monitor and control system; ensure public security monitor and control system, infrared ray monitoring system, broadcasting system, mobile phone beaconage system and digital network system. All these systems can help and guarantee the full operation and safe handling of Silk Street. Otherwise the central air conditioning and indoor illumination can provide the customers a comfortable shopping environment.  At the same time, we have infirmary and reception room for foreign guest and 24 hour ATM, bank and post office.
